Hi Teresa—Yes, I remember our correspondence! I haven’t done any research on the Gooches for a number of years, but there have been some interesting matches in the Gooch Y-DNA project on FTDNA. Are you a part of that? One match goes back to James Elisha Gooch and Agnes Penix through their descendants that migrated to Lincoln County, KY. It is a match at 111 markers with a distance of 3, which is really good. There are 6 matches at 67 markers, with a distance of 3-4. Other trees have wife’s name as Agnes Penny Pinnick. James’ birthplace on FamilySearch is Louisa County, VA, but I don’t know how accurate it is. An entry on Find a Grave says, “THE INTERIOR JOURNAL, STANFORD, KY.
Friday, June 18, 1880, Page 3, Deaths, Gooch. – On Sunday last, of old age, James Gooch, aged 100 years. Mr. Gooch was born in Virginia and moved to a farm near Waynesburg in this county, when he was 16 years of age, and on this farm his remains were laid away on Monday last. Up to seven weeks before his death he could get around his house quite lively, although he was entirely blind and nearly entirely deaf. (Kentuckiana Digital Library)”. His father on FindaGrave is Rowland Gooch, but again, I haven’t looked at it closely to know how accurate it is. But there is some very good documentation for Rowland’s family on Findagrave, showing a lot of Louisa County, VA sources.
