Thomas and Verlinda Jennings Gooch are buried in “new” Bluffton Cemetery, Llano County, Texas. Thomas died 2 Mar 1885 and Verlinda died 5 Nov 1898.
394 graves from the original Bluffton Cemetery were moved in the mid-1930s because a dam was being constructed on the Colorado River (no, not that Colorado River) and the area would soon be under water. Buchanan Dam was completed in 1937 using funds from the New Deal.
These are photos Thomas and Verlinda Gooch’s headstone, and the military marker for Thomas, as they were posted on Findagrave.com by Kim Runkel. Thomas was a Mexican War veteran and I will be posting his pension file soon.

Franklin Thomas Pomeroy and Sophia Isadora (Dora) Morris were married on 28 Mar 1893 in Mesa, Maricopa County, Arizona. They traveled to Logan, Cache County, Utah to be “sealed” in the Logan Temple on 19 Apr 1893. (Dora’s obituary says they were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple, but their marriage certificate and temple records verify the Mesa wedding and Logan sealing.)
This photograph was taken by C.R. Savage of Salt Lake City, Utah. I have posted a scan of the original (sepia) and a black and white edited version with enhanced contrast, and without the “C.R. Savage, Salt Lake City” at the bottom.
This is the license portion of a marriage license/certificate document that measures 16″ x 10.5″. The license comprises the top half of the document and the marriage certificate comprises the bottom half. (See previous posts) The document was originally folded in three places, and on the back side of the license and certificate is the information identifying the contracting parties, witnesses, officiator, and filing information. The only fold line that is still intact is the one in the middle, whereas at the other two the document has become detached. It features a seal from the Probate Court of Maricopa County, Territory of Arizona. These are scans of the original document in possession of Dayna Jacobs.
