Land Grants in Texas – Link to a helpful guide and images

While preparing for a trip to Texas I came across excellent digital images of land grants and patents on the Texas General Land Office website.  I must say, “Well done, Texas. Your General Land Office website is the Biggest and Best state land office website I have found on the web!”

Thomas Gooch, patent file #1133, Texas General Land Office, for 160 acres, patented 11 Jun 1863. Each file has many pages digitized, and they are of excellent quality.

Trying to learn more about what I had found, I came across this helpful guide to the different types of land grants in Texas.  It comes with sample images of each type of grant, which is what I especially like about it.  If any of you are doing Texas research, you will like this link by P2 Energy Solutions.

While in Texas I plan to “research” the Texas State Fair.  If it is not the Biggest and Best I will be surprised.  I hear they have fried butter, fried Twinkies, and fried cobbler there.  Yee Haw!

But I also will be on the trail of my Texas ancestors, and am hoping the Biggest and Best surprises await me in central Texas’ hill country.  I will keep you posted.
